Description

Maple Donut Bars are a warm, baked twist on traditional donuts, topped with a sweet maple glaze and perfect for breakfast, snack, or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup milk (or more, as needed)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • Sprinkles (optional)
  • Crumbled bacon (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, sugar, eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan or line with parchment paper.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  6. Bake for 20–25 minutes, until a skewer inserted comes out clean and edges are golden brown.
  7. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Sift the powdered sugar into a large bowl.
  9. Add maple syrup, milk, melted butter, vanilla extract, and salt. Whisk until smooth.
  10. Adjust glaze consistency with more milk or sugar if needed.
  11. Pour glaze over the cooled bars evenly.
  12. Immediately sprinkle with toppings if desired.
  13. Let glaze set for 30 minutes to an hour.
  14. Cut into squares or rectangles and serve.

Notes

Measure flour accurately and avoid overmixing for the best texture. Bars can be stored at room temperature or refrigerated for longer freshness.
