Description

Fun and festive deviled eggs with a spooky spiderweb design, perfect for Halloween gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 large eggs, hard-boiled and cooled
  • 1 to 2 cups water, enough to cover eggs
  • 1 teaspoon black food coloring gel
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • Pinch of kosher salt
  • Pinch of freshly ground black pepper
  • Smoked paprika
  • Black sesame seeds
  • Finely chopped chives

Instructions

  1. Gently tap the cooled, hard-boiled eggs with the back of a spoon to create a network of fine cracks on the shells without peeling them.
  2. In a sealable container or deep bowl, mix water and black food coloring gel until fully combined and dark in color.
  3. Submerge the cracked eggs completely in the coloring solution, ensuring they are fully covered. Add extra water if needed.
  4. Cover and refrigerate the eggs for a minimum of 180 minutes, or overnight for a more intense effect.
  5. Remove the eggs from the solution, rinse under cool water, and add a splash of white vinegar to set the color. Carefully peel to reveal the spiderweb pattern.
  6. Slice the peeled eggs in half lengthwise and gently scoop the yolks into a mixing bowl.
  7. Mash the yolks until finely crumbled. Add mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, kosher salt, and black pepper. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  8. For an extra spooky effect, blend in a drop of green or purple food coloring gel if desired.
  9. Spoon or pipe the yolk mixture into the egg white cavities evenly.
  10. Garnish with smoked paprika, black sesame seeds, or chopped chives. Serve chilled.

Notes

For a richer flavor, consider using flavored mayonnaise or adding additional seasonings to the yolk mixture. Be careful when peeling the eggs; take your time to avoid damaging the spiderweb pattern.
