Description
The Best Apple Crisp is a classic dessert that’s easy to make, filled with tender apples and topped with a buttery, cinnamon-spiced crumble. It’s the perfect sweet and crunchy treat for any time of year—especially when served warm with vanilla ice cream.
Ingredients
Scale
- 5 cups fresh apples (sliced)
- 1/2 cup granulated white sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup old-fashioned oats
- 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter (melted)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a deep dish pie plate or large baking dish with butter or cooking spray and set it aside.
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples with the sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Mix everything until the apples are evenly coated.
- Pour the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish.
- In a separate bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, salt, and remaining 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. Pour in the melted butter and stir until the mixture is well coated and crumbly.
- Sprinkle the crumb mixture evenly over the apples.
- Bake for 45–60 minutes, or until the fruit is soft and the topping is golden brown.
- Allow it to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream if desired.
Notes
Use a combination of apples like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp for a balanced flavor. Add a drizzle of caramel or chopped nuts for extra richness.
