Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • Water (as needed)
  • Powdered sugar (for icing)
  • Food coloring
  • Sprinkles, glitter, or crushed candy canes (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
  3. Add eggs, vanilla, almond extract, and orange zest; mix until smooth.
  4. Gradually mix in flour until dough forms; add milk if needed.
  5. Roll dough to ¼-inch thickness and cut with cookie cutters.
  6. Chill cookies on baking sheets for 10-15 minutes.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden; let cool completely.
  8. Prepare icing by whisking meringue powder, lemon juice, and water; gradually add sugar while beating until glossy.
  9. Divide icing into bowls, add food coloring, and decorate cookies.
  10. Let decorated cookies set before serving.
